Kabini is situated on the riverside of Kabini River which was once a private hunting ground for the Maharaja of Mysore and for Indian Royal kings and British Viceroys. Kabini wildlife sanctuary is considered to be the best in Karnataka known for its wildlife and birds which is easily accessible, that surrounds a large clear lake and astonishing sightings of elephants herds and other beautiful wild animals.
Kabini’s forests have a variety of moist, tropical and dry deciduous type trees and home to large species of flora and fauna. Kabini is a major attraction for nature lovers all over the country. Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary is interesting and distinctive due to the presence of thick forests, range of species, wild animals and plenty of elephant herds. Apart from elephants, there is a possibility to spot Sambhar, Chital, Langurs, Bison, Crocodile, Sloth Bear, Pythons, Leopards and Tiger. The reserve also has about 250 different species of birds. The dam across Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary attracts a lot of tourists.

Kabini can be visited all through the year with pleasant and warm climate all through the year. Summers begin during March until May and experiences temperatures of 10°C during nights to 36°C during day times. Winters that generally commence from the month of December until February have a maximum day temperature of 26°C and minimum 6°C. Monsoons are generally heavy during June to September
The wildlife sanctuary can be best visited during the period from November to June when heavy rains stop.

Kabini can be reached from nearest railway station Mysore which is at about 80 km. Mysore has good train connections with other cities in India through Bangalore Terminal.
KSRTC buses connect Kabini very well to all neighboring cities including Bangalore. There are many deluxe buses available from Bangalore. The bus fare from Bangalore to Kabini would cost about Rs 300 – Rs 400 when travelling by the state bus and Rs 600 - Rs 800 by private deluxe buses.
